HyClone RPMI solution with L-glutamine is available with or without HEPES. RPMI 1640 formulations without L-glutamine as well as RPMI lyophilized powder are also available.
HyClone RPMI 1640 culture medium is hydrated using purified process water and is filtered through a 0.1 µm filter.
RPMI 1640 uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system. The medium includes glucose and amino acids but does not include proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, nutrient supplementation is typically required using serum such as HyClone fetal bovine serum.
HyClone RPMI 1640 is a basal medium that was originally developed for long-term culture of peripheral blood lymphocytes. It is now used as a growth medium for a variety of mammalian cell types. Human leukocytes, hybridomas, and other mammalian cells can be grown in suspension or adherent culture with appropriate supplementation.
